The Lakeside Leaders

Try new things. Make new friends. Joining Beavers is another step in your big Scouting adventure.

Beavers are young people, aged 6 to 8, who:

  • Master new skills and try new things

  • Have fun and go on adventures

  • Make friends

  • Are curious about the world around them

  • Help others and make a difference, on their own doorsteps and beyond

Every week, they gather in groups called Beaver Colonies to hop, skip and jump their way through lots of different games and activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way.

Meetings

We have two Beaver colonies at 1st Twyford:

Lakeside Beavers – meet at Scout Hut in term-time on Wednesdays 17:30 – 18:30

  • Led by Teal &  Team Members - Pike and Kingfisher

Riverbank Beavers – meet at Scout Hut in term-time on Thursdays 17:30 – 18:30

  • Led by Otter & Team Members - Adder and Dragonfly

Both Colonies are assisted by some older Explorer Scouts volunteering as Young Leaders.

Get involved...

We're always looking for new Scout leaders, fundraising volunteers, committee members and occasional helpers. Whether you've got a little or a lot of time to spare, we need your help!

Joining Beavers

We welcome applications for entry into the Beaver section if your child is currently 5 years or older. Beavers can join our section in the term in which they turn 6.

All applications for places at Beavers should be made through our OSM platform and will be added to our waiting list.

We regularly review applications and will contact you when we can offer your child a place,

When a child joins Beavers they get to try it out for 3 - 4 weeks before needing to obtain a uniform ready for their official investiture into Beavers when we all make our promise together:

'I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world'.

The uniform consists of a turquoise sweatshirt, navy blue trousers, joggers or leggings and a specific 1st Twyford neckerchief (scarf).

Both colonies run a varied programme of activities planned by the leaders to enable every Beaver, who attends regularly & joins in the various activities, to earn all 6 Challenge Awards & a minimum of 4 Activity Badges this then ensures that they can be awarded their Chief Scouts Bronze Award - the highest award a Beaver can earn - which is transferred onto their Cub uniform when they move on to a Pack and shows they have a lot of Scouting experience.

Beaver uniform

You don't need a uniform to join. But once you've settled in, you'll start speedily earning badges, and you'll need to know where to put them!
